It’s become a voice, and the challenge has been how to use and extend that powerful voice outside its ‘natural’ enviroment. Melbourne’s ‘rap orchestra’ True Live are a revelation, using the word play of rap to express their own (and our) world, and to inspire rather than enrage. Instrumentally the members come from the world of orchestral music, but manage to be as daring and experimental with the way they use and play those instruments as they are in the actual combination of these two extreme music worlds.
